Twinkle Twinkle

Most parents with toddlers will understand that from a certain age, the TV in the living room does not belong to them anymore. For AJ we gave up the rights to the TV about a year ago, and the list of shows I have to catch up on, sololy and with Tiwa just keeps growing. That said, I think if we really want to, we can get the rights to the TV back, but that means AJ will spend all the time on her tablet which doesn’t sit well with me because I can’t keep an eye on what she is watching. It would also mean that it’s a wrap for Cocomelon, Bebefinn, Super Simple Songs, and Miss Racheal…and erm, I am not ready for that yall.

Yeah, that’s right, I love nursery rhymes. What is not to like? What is not to like? No one is fucking my bitch, no one is asking how much I have in the bank, and no one wants to kill me…what is not to like? Heck, I have my own playlist of my favorite nursery rhymes on Spotify that I chill to during my quality time!

AJ and I have started having arguments over which song to play next (She is saying bits and bobs now so the debate has started). I always try to put MY favorite nursery rhymes on youtube before she gets into the room, sometimes I am not successful, and she walks in on me with all the thumbnails on YouTube there for all to see.

This one daddy…this one

At all o, I want to “happy happy happy”,

No thank you, this one

I ignore her and put on “my happy song”, (it is always my happy song) and she loses her shit…

Dude the song says happy happy happy! Why the fuck are you crying?!

I love that song boy. It IS my happy song, it goes:

this is my happy song, I like to sing it all day long, I’ll teach you the words, then you can sing along. Happy Happy Happy, happy happy happy happy happy happy, happy happy happy, happy happy happy.

That is it. That’s the song that changed my life. I didn’t know I needed a literal happy song! Pharrell had the right idea that year. I remember a day I was going through it, hin remain small for me to cry but instead of crying I don’t how I started singing my happy song mehn…I sang happiness into my fucked up day. Although that instance was more of me singing cos it reminds me of AJ stomping and dancing along to the song (when she wasn’t yet sick of it). I love that song mehn.

How can you not love nursery rhymes? The first one that got me was “bicycle for two”…that is an actual love song that is kid friendly and it is part of cocomelons playlist. I just replaced Daisy with AJ and it turned into her goodnight song. Now I can’t hear that song and not think of AJ tucked into bed as I kiss her goodnight.

There is also John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, his name is my name too, whenever we go out, the people always shout there goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt da da da da da da da da…rinse and repeat. There is nothing more adorable than watching AJ sing John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, like why is she even attempting to say Jingleheimer Schmidt?

Knowing most of the nursery rhymes AJ listens to has the added bonus of car karaoke when I pick her up from the nursery, the only small issue with that is she tends to repeat the same song over and over even when I clearly want to sing my happy song (that song is gonna end up being an all-time classic for me).

AJ oya this is my happy song, I like to si

No daddy, old mcdonald had a…CHICKEN!

But we have done that one like 10 times.

AGAIN

Na I love the nursery rhymes in my playlist yall…they all remind me of AJ in one way or the other. That is the beauty of that playlist, if I play it in 5 years' time, it will transport me right back to AJ being a toddler, and I know that playlist will come in handy when AJ gets to her annoying phase to remind me of the good old days.

No wonder kids are always excited and happy, when all they listen to all day is happy songs and repeat after me songs. Imagine if someone was singing about burning their toys or my toy is finer than yours? How did we go from twinkle twinkle to you claim to be a player but I fucked your wife?

Anyways, I am planning to ride this out mehn, because before you say John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt AJ will be all grown and there will be zero reasons to listen to nursery rhymes without questions being asked, but even when that time comes, I know I will always have my playlist and my happy song.
